Kleinschalig ontwikkelingswerk is populair. Burgers, lokale overheden en bedrijven zetten zich in voor scholen in Bosnië en vrouwengroepen in Guatemala. Ze verstrekken microkredieten in Kenia en sponsoren een ziekenhuis in Sierra Leone. Daarbij stuiten ze op vragen en lastige situaties. Wat doe je wanneer je contactpersoon niet met de beloofde informatie komt? Hoe beoordeel je een begroting? Hoe ga je om met een lastig dorpshoofd? Is het slim om zélf microkredieten te verstrekken? Open uw project voor kinderen met een handicap
Waarom worden mensen met een handicap uitgesloten? Hoe ontdek je ‘verborgen kinderen’? Hoe ga je om met stigma’s en vooroordelen? MEEDOEN is een praktische gids voor iedereen die betrokken is bij projecten in ontwikkelingslanden. Het laat zien hoe je met relatief weinig inspanning vaak veel voor kinderen met handicap kunt betekenen. Hoewel de gids in hoofdzaak over kinderen gaat, is de informatie ook van toepassing op jongeren en volwassenen.
Mirjam Vossen en Marga van Zundert zijn redacteuren van het Wereldpodium in Tilburg. Marga van Zundert is wetenschapsjournalist. Mirjam Vossen schreef meerdere boeken over ontwikkelingshulp, waaronder ‘Eerste Hulp Bij Ontwikkelingswerk’.
Het Liliane Fonds stelt MEEDOEN gratis beschikbaar. Met deze gids wil het Liliane Fonds organisaties stimuleren om in hun beleid en projecten zo veel mogelijk rekening te houden met kinderen met een beperking.

Iedereen ventileert zijn mening in het huidige debat over ontwikkelingshulp. Helaas voeren onwaarheden, drogredenen en valse sentimenten vaak de boventoon. Hoog tijd voor een weerwoord. In Voorbij de borrelpraat fileert Mirjam Vossen dertig veelgehoorde vragen over ontwikkelingssamenwerking: remt hulp economische groei? Waarom is er nog armoede na 60 jaar hulp? Cosmopolitanism is hot. There is growing awareness that a cosmopolitan mindset is an essential component of globalization, and that a growing number of people can now claim to be ‘world citizens’.
As we emerge from the dark years which followed the terrorist attacks of September 2001, thinking in terms of ‘us’ and ‘them’ is once again being questioned. Should we really attach so much importance to a person’s culture or religion? Is it not preferable to regard everyone as an individual with a unique identity? Are we right to fear Islam? The study Township Blues investigates the opportunities for microjustice in Malawi. Microjustice is a new, bottom-up approach to legal development cooperation. Its strategy is to lower the barriers of accessing justice for civilians in resource poor countries.
The current study focuses on a limited geographical area: Ndirande township in Blantyre. The study identifies legal needs of its residents and maps the strategies that people use to solve their problems. Theft, property grabbing, family issues, employment issues, land issues and detention are recognized as the most urgent legal issues. One of the key findings is that people often get bogged down when they seek help from existing institutions. As a result, many give up before the conflict is solved. This leads to destroyed family ties, emotional damage, lost income opportunities and increased poverty, especially for women and girls. The findings implicate that people could greatly benefit from microjustice solutions.
The research was carried out by Mirjam Vossen en Michel Knapen of Bureau FAQ, in collaboration with Tilburg Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies of Civil Law and Conflict Resolution Systems (TISCO, Tilburg University). It is part of the broader research programme of the Microjustice Initiative.
